Spa, Avus, Zandvoort & Zolder

Various Dates in 1965

Frank de Jong, who runs a website dedicated to touring car racing results ( http://touringcarracing.net/ ), searched his database and discovered the following results involving a Pontiac GTO in Europe.

The drivers include the Belgian Chris Tuerlinx (sometimes spelled Tuerlinckx). He appears in a number of races driving American cars such as Corvettes or Camaros in Europe. In addition, he co-drove a Shelby GT350 at LeMans in 1967 with Claude Dubois, the European Shelby distributor. He died in a road accident going home from the 1973 Spa race in May of that year.

The second driver mentioned is Robert Huhn. Huhn is a German driver associated with Abarth and Porsche (910′s and 914/6 among others) as a member of Scuderia Lufthansa. I understand he was a pilot for Lufthansa in addition to driving their race cars.

Among the questions to which we need answers are:

  • Are there any other results for these cars in European racing? Is there any other published information on this car?
  • The Avus and Zolder races were one day apart, is there a possibility that they refer to the same car driven by two different drivers?
  • Does anyone have any contact information for Robert Huhn?
  • We are always interested in any documentation available, i.e. photos entry lists, results lists, remembrances, programs, etc.
